Dennis Johnson Donated Time For Landmark Marriage Case
DES MOINES, Iowa -- Members of Iowa's gay and lesbian community said a big thank you to one of the attorneys behind the state's same-sex marriage ruling.
Dennis Johnson was honored Wednesday for the time he donated to work on the landmark case.
Last spring, the Iowa Supreme Court ruled homosexuals couples can marry in the state. Johnson said the case was the most significant of his career.
"The interest is very high. People are very enthusiastic and I'm seeing changes in attitudes," Johnson said. "I think the fact that the Iowa case came out of the heartland has had an impact on a lot of people."
Recent number showed that nearly 1,400 same-sex marriage licenses have been given out in Iowa since the April ruling.
