Traditional marriage proponents: 'We must act'

Christian activists from the National Organization for Marriage rallied nearly 50 people Tuesday afternoon in a Sioux City church's parking lot to join a "growing army" in support of traditional marriage and voice their beliefs to judges, legislators and neighbors that marriage is between one man and one woman.

One Iowa holds rally on riverfront

While one rally was taking place across town, supporters of same sex marriage were gathered on Sioux City's riverfront for their own rally.

One Iowa is also encouraging people to voice their views with their votes in November.

With the Iowa Supreme Court ruling, same sex couple have been able to get marriage licenses since April of last year and some of those couples spoke at this rally.

"One Iowa" educating voters about importance of freedom to marry

"Stand proud, vote proud." That was the slogan of the day in Davenport on Monday, as "One Iowa" was in town.

One Iowa hosted the voter education event in downtown Davenport. The gay marriage group is touring across Iowa all this week to share the importance of the freedom to marry.

It is all to counter the National Organization for Marriage's anti-gay 'Summer for Marriage Tour.'

Anti-gay group takes aim at Iowa families

Anti-gay group the National Organization for Marriage (NOM) staged a rally in Iowa on Aug. 1, and told a small crowd of supporters that broken families result in higher taxes. The group then suggested that one way to preserve heterosexual marriages--and save taxpayers money--would be to rescind marriage equality in Iowa.

NOM’s stop in Des Moines, the capital of Iowa, is part of the group’s ongoing, 19-state tour to decry marriage rights for same-sex families and to defend "traditional" marriage, reported an Aug. 2 Associated Press story.

Supporters of Iowa's same-sex marriage law aren't resting easy this election season.

One Iowa, the state's largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender advocacy group, kicked off its Stand Proud, Vote Proud electoral campaign this week supporting candidates who favor the civil marriage equality, providing such candidates with volunteers to canvass neighborhoods and urge people to vote Nov. 2.
